This Week in Garyland

Believe it or not, the Terps basketball season has begun although it has been slightly overshadowed by the surprising performance of the now #22 in the AP Terrapins football team. Gary Williams' Terps have started out 1-0, winning on Friday night 81-52 against Buknell, and have a chance to start out 3-0 if they can beat two more mid-majors this upcoming week. On Tuesday night the Terps will face Youngstown State at home in an 8PM tip off, and will play at home again on Friday against Vermont at 8PM. That game will air on Comcast Sports Net.

After a big performance in the first game of the season by junior forward Landon Milbourne, look for him to continue to improve and help lead this team alongside Greivis Vasquez all season long. In what may be a rebuilding year for the Terps, look for these two to still generate big numbers individually and lead by example to the young team that the Terps will be fielding.

Newcomer Jin Soo Kim, a freshman forward from South Korea is a fan favorite already after dropping 20 points in a scrimmage against Northwood (FL), and adding 5 points against Bucknell on Friday night. Although he misses a lot of shots right now, he is a large body that the Terps can put on the floor after losing James Gist and Boom Osby; and if he can improve his defense and start taking better shots, he could potentially end up playing a big role for the Terps this year. The student section loves this kid.

If your at home on Friday night, tune in and watch Terps hoops take on Vermont. I may make it to the game; it depends on whether I've already started tailgating for the Saturday night football game against Florida State or not.

#22 Maryland vs. Florida State football preview and prediction to come later this week. Also, congratulations to the Maryland Men's Soccer team on their ACC Championship victory, and the UMD Field Hockey team on their Final Four berth and #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
